
Glutathione is a protein (peptide) made from the combination of three amino acids; Glycine, Cysteine, and Glutamic acid. Body naturally produces Glutathione in the liver and is involved in the many functions of the body. Glutathione has the ability to do skin lightening by converting melanin into a lighter colour.
Glutathione levels in the body may be reduced by a number of factors such as poor nutrition, stress and environmental toxins.Glutathione levels also decline with the age. Glutathione has many important functions in the body in addition to whitening. They are reducing cell damage, improving insulin resistance, supporting immune function ,breaking down some free radicals, regenerating vitamin C and E, helping the liver and gallbladder deal with the fats are some of them.
There are different dietary resources which include Glutathione. They are; Garlic, Broccoli, Avocados, Salmon fish, Radish, Nuts and Milk. Garlic has anti-aging effects and will boost the production of Glutathione in the liver. Broccoli is a sulphur rich food which boosts Glutathione production. The protein found in the salmon fish works with its healthy fats (omega-3 and omega-6) to produce glutathione in the body.
There are different forms of Glutathione preparations available in the world;oral supplement in capsule and liquid form, local applications, intravenous injections. However, oral ingestion of Glutathione may not be as effective as intravenous preparations but it is not licensed in some countries. Common side effects are abdominal cramps, bloating, breathing difficulties & allergic reactions. However Glutathione preparations may not be suitable for everyone. Always you need the Doctor’s advice before using.
