From Hair Fall to Hair Confidence: Modern Aesthetic Solutions for Hair Loss
Hair is more than a part of our appearance; it is closely connected to identity, youthfulness, confidence, and emotional well-being. For many men and women, seeing excessive hair on the pillow, in the shower drain, or on the comb can be deeply worrying. Hair loss has become a common concern today due to stress, hormonal changes, nutritional deficiencies, genetic tendency, post-illness shedding, and lifestyle factors. Although it may seem like a cosmetic issue, its impact on self-confidence can be significant.
To understand hair loss, we must first understand the hair growth cycle. Each hair follicle goes through three main stages. The anagen phase is the active growing stage, where hair grows continuously for several years. The catagen phase is a short transition stage, where growth slows down. The telogen phase is the resting stage, after which old hair naturally falls out and a new hair begins to grow.
Different types of hair loss are linked to changes in these stages. In male and female pattern hair loss, the anagen phase gradually becomes shorter, causing hair to become thinner, finer, and weaker. In telogen effluvium, which may happen after stress, fever, surgery, childbirth, dieting, or illness, many hairs suddenly enter the resting phase, leading to increased shedding. In alopecia areata, the immune system affects the hair follicle, disturbing normal growth. In scarring conditions, the follicle may be permanently damaged, so early diagnosis is very important.
The common causes of hair loss include genetics, hormonal imbalance, thyroid disease, iron and vitamin deficiencies, stress, dandruff or scalp inflammation, certain medications, rapid weight loss, post-pregnancy changes, and aging. Therefore, treating hair loss should not be limited to applying oils or shampoos. The real cause must be identified through proper medical assessment.
This is where aesthetic medicine offers new hope. Modern regenerative treatments aim to improve the scalp environment, strengthen weak follicles, and stimulate natural hair growth. Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, uses the patient’s own blood, processed to concentrate platelets rich in growth factors. These growth factors may improve blood supply around hair follicles and support healthier hair growth. Platelet-rich fibrin, or PRF, is a newer form that releases growth factors more slowly, giving prolonged stimulation. Growth Factor Concentration, or GFC, is an advanced PRP-based technique that provides a more refined concentration of growth factors, often with less discomfort and more targeted action.
The advantages of these treatments include minimal downtime, natural-looking improvement, and the ability to use the body’s own healing potential. Because it uses your own blood, the risk of allergic reaction is practically nonexistent. However, results take time, multiple sessions may be needed, and not every type of hair loss responds equally. Temporary redness, mild swelling, tenderness, or bruising can occur. Advanced hair loss or scarring alopecia may need different treatment options.
Exosome therapy is another promising advancement. Exosomes are tiny messenger particles that help cell-to-cell communication and may support regeneration around weakened follicles. They can be combined with microneedling or direct scalp application to enhance absorption. Other supportive treatments may include scalp mesotherapy, low-level laser therapy, nutritional correction, medical hair serums, and treatment of dandruff or scalp inflammation.
Because hair loss is multifactorial, there is no one-size-fits-all miracle cure. At My Cosmetic Clinic (https://mycosmeticclinic.lk/), we believe successful hair restoration begins with a personalized treatment plan. Each patient’s scalp, health history, lifestyle, blood reports, and hair loss pattern should be carefully assessed before selecting PRP, PRF, GFC, exosomes, or combination therapy.
“Healthy hair begins not only from the scalp but also from understanding the person beneath it.”
