Phototherapy (Light Therapy)
Phototherapy is a non-invasive treatment which can be used in all types of skin. Phototherapy is based on the use of a light-emitting device which in most cases uses light emitting diodes (LEDs). These LED devices are produced in a wide range of wavelengths, from UV through the visible (blue, green, yellow and red) to infrared spectrum (247–1300 nm wavelengths). Compared to lasers, LED devices are cheaper and illuminate larger wide surfaces.

LED phototherapy does not cause trauma or tissue destruction while promoting tissue repair, wound healing, blood circulation and skin tissue rejuvenation. The optimal wavelength should be selected by the function that is needed for the purpose of the therapy. This is often used as an ancillary therapy combined with another procedure.
For most conditions, the results are visible from the first treatment itself. LED phototherapy can be used as an adjuvant treatment method once or twice a week for 3 – 4 weeks. Some may need maintenance of the treatment every month or every few months depending on the skin type and condition.
