Subcision
Subcision is a minor surgical procedure typically performed as an outpatient treatment. It involves the insertion of a small needle beneath the skin’s surface, targeting the acne scar and its underlying tissue. This technique effectively elevates the scar, allowing your skin to naturally rise and significantly reduces the visible effects of the scar.
Applications of Subcision extend beyond acne scars as it’s a versatile treatment that can also address depressed scars, wrinkles, and even cellulite. Furthermore, it holds promise for reducing scars resulting from conditions like chickenpox and surgical wounds.
First, the area numbed by using a local anaesthetic cream.
An 18 – 22 gauge needle is then gently inserted horizontally beneath the scar and moved back and forth, creating a soft snapping sound disrupting the stubborn skin fibres responsible for the depressions.
The procedure takes less than 30 minutes to complete.
After subcision treatment, some might experience pain, swelling, and bruising at the injection site. These effects are common and typically take 1 to 2 weeks to subside.
