An Aesthetic Approach on how to get rid of Acne

Acne is a common skin condition which mainly affects teenagers but can be seen in all age categories. It produces feelings of depression, embarrassment and frustration, even affecting their personalities.

Acne is a skin condition that occurs when your hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells, which provides a medium for the bacteria to grow causing infection leading to inflammation at the site. Depending on the severity of the condition, acne may be seen as whiteheads, blackheads, red nodules, pimples or even pus filled and painful nodules.

They can appear on your face, forehead, chest and upper back areas including shoulders. There are several things that may cause acne. Out of these, hormonal changes are the most common triggering factor. When reaching the age of adolescence, androgen hormones in our body increase which proliferate and enlarge sebum-producing sebaceous glands in our skin.

When sebum increases the skin becomes more and more oily leading to form acne. Certain medications and diet patterns may also trigger acne formation while one’s stress factor also plays a vital role. Stress causes secretion of cortisol which makes skin more oily. Worsening of acne may cause complications such as scars, hyper-pigmented dark areas and even keloids in affected skin areas. Acne can be treated medically or by using cosmetic treatment methods which are known as Aesthetic therapeutics. In this article we will be looking at a few Aesthetic medical approaches to treat acne.

Microdermabrasion is a very safe method to treat acne scars. It can be used on all types of skin. Being a non-invasive treatment method, it removes the top layer of the skin, exfoliating it. With a series of treatments, significant reduction in acne scarring is seen. Microneedling is also used for treatment of acne where microscopic holes are made on the skin using very fine needles. Microneedling utilizes specialized devices such as Derma rollers, Electric derma Pens and also devices with specific techniques such as Derma-stamping and Dermafrac equipment. Microneedling is becoming a popular aesthetic treatment modality to treat acne because of its safety, minimal invasiveness, and rapid effectiveness.

Under aesthetic medicine, mesotherapy also plays a vital role in acne treatment. In mesotherapy, medicines, vitamins, and minerals are injected into different layers of the skin close to the areas that need treatment. Conventionally, syringes were used for mesotherapy, which has recently been replaced with electronic injectors, called ‘guns’ which are used to perform safer and painless penetration. The person’s own blood, centrifuged and separated as
“platelet rich plasma” (PRP), is also used with microneedling or as methotherapy to treat different grades of acne at our MyCosmeticClinic. Skin peels work to deeply exfoliate the top layers of skin, usually using a skin-safe acid formula. The top layers of skin peel off over a few days after the treatment. This method is specially used to treat acne scarring. In addition to the above mentioned methods, light rays with different wavelengths are used at the clinic to treat acne. Laser, IPL, IR treatment, and Terahertz treatment methods used in combination with other treatment modalities. Laser rays remove the upper layers of the skin resurfacing the acne scars. By removing the old skin, Laser & IPL both give a younger refresh look for the skin. These light rays increase microcirculation, promoting collagen synthesis, which provokes the natural healing process of our body.

Aesthetic treatment for acne is becoming popular because of its minimal invasiveness, safety, and rapid effectiveness. Easy access of these treatment modalities lead to better results in a short period of time.
